Reef Recovery
United Science and Culture
A holistic approach to reef conservation and unique reef experience planned to connect guests with reef restoration projects on the Great Barrier Reef
Our team have been involved in the installation of over 1,000 Reef Stars at a variety of reef sites across the Great Barrier Reef since 2020. Reef Stars are installed on areas of unnatural unconsolidated coral rubble that have been created through extreme weather systems and other damage. Through their modular structure and the addition of live coral fragments, Reef Stars help to rebuild and regenerate degraded coral reef sites.
Reef Stars were developed by Mars Sustainable Solutions and The Reef Cooperative Reef Star project is a collaboration between Citizens of The Reef, GBR Biology, Mars Australia, Gunggandji Land and Sea Rangers, Dawul Wuru Aboriginal Corporation and supported by founding funder, The Cotton On Foundation.
